3x4 blacktail
« on: October 26, 2012, 10:53:02 PM »
Got off work from night shift and decided to go for a quick hunt before I went to bed. I stopped by the house grabbed my gun and gear and didn't realize I had forgotten my binoculars until I was half way up to where I wanted to hunt. I was disgusted with myself but I figured it was gonna just be a quick look anyway. Just as I was getting to where I could look over the clearcut I was irritated with myself once again for not bringing my binoculars. I had to look through my scope to see if I could find something. The very first place I look I see this guy standing about 250a yards down the hill from me. I didn't have a rest so I dropped to one knee put my elbow on my other knee and tried to steady a shot. I fired and he walked up behind a leave strip just up the hill from him. I ran up the hill to try to see the other side of the strip as I got up the hill I see him walking up the ridge. I get a good stump for a rest and he stops broad side I shoot for behind the shoulder and this time he falls out of sight. As it turns out I just skimmed his back on the first shot. It took me a few hours to drag him out and get him strung up didn't get much sleep but it was well worth it.

Great looking buck. I've found it's usually good luck to forget an important item.

Next time try forgetting your hunting license and tag. Guaranteed you will get a deer.   :chuckle:

Congrats on the nice buck but its a very bad idea to use your scope as bino's, there is nothing that pisses me off more in the field than being scoped by someone.

Nothing wrong with using your scope instead of binos. You just simply use the common sense not to look at those blaze orange spots amongst the green and brown background. Doing it just gets a bad rap from those hunters not smart enough to scan with naked eye at the same time and avoid pointing their weapon at someone.

As I use to tell my boss's at work when I worked shift work...'Do not worry...I wont let work get in the way of my hunting."
Nice Blackie...I need to score on one of those!
If you love something you will set it free, if it don't come home, hunt it down and kill it.
