ELK around JBLM
« on: October 30, 2012, 07:10:40 PM »
Im looking for some ELK around JBLM. With work and little time in the area i havent had time to scout. Does JBLM have ELK on it, or any areas around allow public hunting. I have been told to go to the Olympic National Forest. Can you hunt that area or are all the elk south and out east.

Not sure if you can hunt the area, but there are some near the tank crossings in Nisqually near the Rez.

Few and far between south or Rainier Rd, but they are in there some times.  Less in the last few years, but I still see evidence they are around when I get a chance to go and look.  They migrate through on to private ground depending on pressure, troop movements, and shelling. :twocents:  Not a high likely hood of running into any.
May that for which I prepare never come to pass.

And the locals keep the numbers down as well.

There are elk there and they are there most of the winter.  They have a loop I could draw on a map!  About 12 to 18 head and rarely a bull with them.  Behind Tank crossing/rez area is a part of that loop.

Ive hunted TA 16,,17,18,19,20, 21,22 and 23. Hell, Ive hunted every TA on base since I was 8 years old in 1982. I personally never seen one and I dont know anyone who has taken one off base. Sure, there may be a elk or two every so often but I wouldnt waste my time looking for a elk on base.  :twocents:

there is elk in TA 21,22,23,24, i have them on my trail cam, i have been tracking them for a while before i deployed, and they do do a loop it like every 5th to 8th day they come back. they get pushed by all the troops or warrior-forg. i have been going to gmu 667 has been great for me but i don't like cougars and there alot of cat over in that area. it a great area for bow hunting.
