When to put out my cameras

Just wondering what time of the year to put out the cameras and start scouting areas for hunting

As soon as you have batteries in them. I can't wait to soak mine when I get home
Kindly do not attempt to cloud the issue with too many facts.

Right now! Best to have them out during hunting season. I've got four out right now, and the only reason I've still got them out, is so I can try to learn something about the deer that will help me for next year.

It's nice to have them out in the summer but it doesn't necessarily help a lot, because deer will drastically change their routines sometime around late August to mid-September.

:yeah: Normally I have them out year around. I'm gonna pull mine xmas week this year, and not put them back out till june. Trying to save on a little wear and tear year.

I put all mine out end of January / early Feb. and leave them out until opening day of archery for 2 reasons. My cams aren't all that reliable in temps below 30 deg. and I pull them opening day so I reduce any chance of the getting stolen. I figure I have a pretty good idea of what animals are where after 8 months of pics. I use Lithium batteries and they last at least twice as long as regular alkaline batteries, plus it gives me a great reason to get out and look for sheds from the year before.
When your hunting, you're living. Everything else is just waiting.

I have mine out in low lying areas year round and up above 4500, I have them up from March until December usually. they don't do any good sitting on the shelf at home.

Completely agree, mine are up almost year round. I figure..why not? Keep an eye out for fawns/calves in the spring in your area...gives you a good idea about when the rut happened and how long it lasted. And even if it doesn't seem applicable to hunting, you'd be suprised at how much you can learn from your pictures.

My cam is still out.  Went up today to swap out the SD card and put fresh batteries in it.  I figure to leave it until the lowlifes can follow my tracks in the snow to where it is.  I'll leave the lockbox lagged to the tree.  Just an old electrical disconnect box I modified.  no big loss if it gets vandalized....
If it was easy, everybody would be doing it.

When Bernie Madoff did it, it's called a "Ponzi Scheme"
When Government does it, it's called "Social Security"
