Out of luck?
« on: November 06, 2012, 04:48:05 PM »
Need some advice from somebody with elk experience.

It's my first season hunting elk, and my father and I hunted this 250 acre family property down the road this weekend.  After shooting light on Sunday, the herd came onto the farm, and while I was at work this morning, Dad bagged a 3-point, and a guest bagged a 4-point as the herd headed into the meadow after the shot.  I have heard a few people mention that after the herd has been shot, they leave and don't come back.  What is your experience?

I am lucky to have 4-day this coming weekend, and I can either spend it with my dad in the woods or take my wife and pup out east to chase wild birds.  This may be my last elk season for several years, but don't know what the real chances on that property are now.  Are they long gone?

My dad's neighbor shot an elk in their field on saturday, and just now on my way home there was a lone cow standing back out in the neighbor's field.... :twocents:

Is there only one herd of elk in the area? I think not! I would stick it out and see if some others come in. Elk are constantly on the move and can surprise you at anytime. just my :twocents:
This is the year im going to get drawn, i can feel it. NOT SELECTED, NOT SELECTED, NOT SELECTED, NOT SELECTED, NOT SELECTED, NOT SELECTED... damn :(
