no rutting deer in colorado yet...
« on: November 06, 2012, 05:40:13 PM »
Passed on more 18-24 inch 4 points than I care to talk about. Still looking for mister big.
Brother shot a real nice 4x4 this morning with almost symetrical rack. Thought it was the first deer he saw but there were 2 bucks together. He shot the smaller of the 2. Still a very nice deer and his biggest so far.

Found a nice 6x6 elk rack. 3x3 deer rack. Both winter kill and tons of 4 point sheds.

5. Days to go. Will shoot an even 4 by Friday if big one doesn't show.

Having a blast. First out of state hunt. Never shot any deer bigger than a 3 point but was told to hold out. They have bigguns here. And I wish I would have taken pics of what I passed up.

Colorado is full of road hunting out of state quad riders. I would have never believed the amount if I didn't see it with my own eyes. I walked 7 miles tonight and saw 11 does 1 fork and 2 4 points. The quad and jeep that passed me saw none of them.

My Uncle is seeing rut activity.  Passing 175" plus deer every day.   My first two trips to CO, the last few days of the 3rd season were best.  Last year, every day was awesome - mid-week was the best.

Colorado is a huge ATV/ORV state. There are times when there are more ATV/ORV'ers in one section of woods on a random weekend in Colorado then there is hunters on opening day of rifle season in WA.

One of the reason is the USFS is just now starting to take control of ATV/ORV issues in CO. The Colorado Division of Wildlife and Parks in 2011 began a program where they hire additional ATV/ORV Enforcement Officers to patrol the state, they also pay to have BLM and USFS LE personnel work extra to patrol. Think they have a problem?

Sorry i lost this post somewhere, My brother shot a 4 point on day 4 and i shot what i thought was the same 4 point we had been seeing turned out to be a big 3. Nothing special. I should have shot the first 4 point i saw opening day, but we had an awesome time. And we can't wait to do it again.

We were near Meeker.
