blues with my little brother
«

November 08, 2012, 06:57:01 PM »
Sorry, but I need help. Can I please email pics to a member to put on this post from my phone ? if not I am sorry for the story with no photos. My little brother and I got quality tags in the blues this year. With work my brother and I were unable to make it over to scout , we had never been to this area before but I have a good friend who he and his family have been packing in to this unit for over 30 years and had a spot they camp in every year that was about 5 miles in. The saturday before the season started we met my friends dad he was going to pack hay and supplies in for the next week when they were all going in for the spike hunt. We back packed in and they packed in our wall tent and food in for the first week with mules. When we got to camp my friends dad , now my friend too. He took us for a little hike to a ridge, where we spotted our first two bull, pointed out where the trails ridges and saddles that would be the best to hunt were then rode out. We got back to camp and set the wall tent up had a cold beer and a little schnaps, and to bed at 7. For the next 8 days we were in the most rugged and awesome place we had ever hunted . Sunday we woke up went for a hike to do some glassing , missed the trail hiked 2 hours to a ridge that ended up only being 1/2 mile from camp. Did i mention steep. We got up there about 10, there was two respectable bulls near the same ridge my friend had taken us to. We also had 5 more branched bulls spotted from 500 to 1000 yards from us. My little brother really liked 1 of the bulls we had seen by the first ridge we were on, and I really liked the other one.. Opening morning we went to see if we could get a better look at them. We got up there first thing in the morning and watched the hillside til about 2. We then decided to go back to the ridge where we had spotted 7 bulls the day before . About 4:30 the bulls we liked came back out. We decided to not pressure them and go after them in the morning. Tuesday morning on the way up to the ridge my brother stopped and looked up on the hill and said he is up there, we hiked a little further he stopped and said they are both there. We dropped our packs off hiked out a finger off the ridge. It was perfect. 360 yards , the bulls were less than 10 yards apart. The ridge was narrow and worked at a perfect rest. we waited til they were both broadside I told my brother to count to three, we shot and they ended up dying 40 yards apart. It took three days to get them to the trail for the mules, and the next 5 days i got to just hang out with my little brother. In the end the bulls were just a bonus..
