My elk season
« on: November 09, 2012, 01:53:41 PM »
The streak has ended... Sadly this year I was not able to get my elk, I was close a few times however.. Opening day I had a spike in my rifle scope at 200 yards for 5 minutes but could not let the bullet fly due to some cows being in the way.. in the middle of the week I was playing cat and mouse with a spike who would keep going from private to bed to public to feed , well I could never catch up with him on the public so another spike who got lucky.. Finally on the last day I spotted a group of elk with a spike about 3/4 a mile away after my 1 hour 1/2 hike to get to a reasonable shot I sat on these elk for 4 hours. The  cows would show themselves but the spike never did .After awhile they got spooked and bugged out.  I had a idea of where they were going so I had to hightail it over the ridge. Well , When I hit the ridge I could see some trucks stopped on the road.  before I could take another step the world exploded... Apparently these 7 yahoos think it is ok to shoot from the road.. a total of 15 shots in a matter of seconds flew thru the air.. I should of investigated but just got to the road and started my way back to camp.. They flew by me on the road and said they shot a spike... I got up to where they shot from it was well over 500 yards. and they were doing circles trying to find some blood.. Not sure if they got it or not but the whole experience left me sick to my stomach. . I have some ok video but will have to post that when my computer is up. borrowing my parents at the moment.
I also ran into a bull tag holder who was having problems getting her bull. I showed her and her husband some, some she passed and some it just did not work out. she did get her bull with a day to spare but I cannot share that pic however.. throughout the week I ended up seeing 32 branched bulls.. man it is frustrating when you cannot shoot ...

This elk showed up on one of my trail cameras, He stood in front of my camera for over 2 hours hardly moving at all.. I have 128 pics of this guy.. also somehow my camera slipped down the tree :bash: I wondered why this elk would just stand there for 2 hours the last pic might explain it.. Think he will survive?

Ouch. That gash doesn't look good. Luckily I don't see any guts hanging out, I'm sure he will survive if it's just a flesh wound. Real ugly though.

If we were supposed to be vegetarian God would have made broccoli more fun to shoot!
"HOYT" why would you even consider shooting something else?

Sounds like a good time regardless, especially when you're seeing plenty of game! That elk may survive if he doesn't have to run from a cougar, or more importantly wolves.....

I think it is a arrow shot or even maybe a sore from fighting :dunno:
