Practice Time!
« on: July 28, 2007, 11:14:34 AM »
Took three of my kids shootin' since two of them passed Hunter's Ed, and since I'm kinda a "shooter", it was the thing to do, and my oldest Son had to break-in his new .243, and do a bit of sight-in.

Since he's shot so much, and so many varied guns, that boy did alright, as expected. My oldest, my daughter of 14 is kinda the tree-hugger of the family, but she surprised daddy a bit and was doing fine too.

But the biggest surprse of the day was my youngest Son. He's only 7, and he's gone shooting with us for a couple of years now, with me helping to hold the equipment. Even the bolt-action .22 that he enjoys shooting it too big for him, so I help by holding the forearm while he sits just in front of me.
Well, I've always expected that he just "shot-AT" targets, not even using the cross hairs, and always built him up, saying he was hitting the target, but as he was sitting in front of me (we sit on the ground, more "real-life" than a bench), I could "FEEL" him slightly pushing the gun up, down, left or right so I just naturaly would move the gun slightly with my hand holding the forarm as mentioned, talking to him softly.

Well I'll be danged, he hit every clay pidgeon (kids just LOVE reactive targets!!!) or was dang-me close with each and every shot!

That told me for certain that he was indeed using the cross-hairs, amazed and surprised all at the same time. Sure feels good!

Here's the Oldest with his Birthday Present;

Here's one of the oldest shooting his 22 a couple of years ago, didn't have a recent one! He's prone here using a bag rest, but mostly they shoot sitting, cross-legged.

Very cool pics of the kids, congrats on how well each of your kids shot!
I didn't say it was your fault, I said I was blaming you.
If I ageed with you, then we'd both be wrong.
You are never to old to learn something stupid.

Thanks GoldTip for the kind words. Yea, I try and get them out about a dozen times a year, but I've been lacking this year.....time just keeps slipping away!

That's great Littletoes! My 16 year old son and I were out today with the rifles. He was having a tough time producing any kind of decent accuracy today for some reason. Usually he does pretty well with his 6mm Rem, but not today.

I'm dialed at 300 yards with the 7mm Rem mag - bum shoulder and all... No problem. Gotta love those "limbsaver" recoil pads. The old rifle was shooting about 4" groups at 300 yards, from a sitting position, no bipod. Nice old rifle and I love that 6x Leupold!

Best of luck to you and yours this season!

Regards, Guy

Thats good news Guy! I was wondering if you were going to be able to take your Son out this year, with that hurt shoulder....was worried for you, AND HIM!

Bet "HE" was worried! You had me wondering on the other post about favorite Hunting partners if your Son was going to get to hunt or not, or you for that instance.

Good luck this year! I know you've got to be bummed about the Wyoming Hunt.

PS-Was hoping to take the kids out shooting again this weekend, and do some bear hunting....we shall see.
