What are you trying to do? I built a full service gunsmith/machine shop and then got slapped in the face with my dream job up here in Alaska....but I am going to be back in town eventually.

I've NEVER met a "friendly" or courteous gunsmith in my life! All of them acted like I was a scumbag for stopping by.       :chuckle:           I know they are busy, but damn, man!

then you haven't been to the biesen's!  better plan the better part of two hours, cause them boys like to talk!

Brocks glass bedded a few rifles for me, I was satisfied with the work.
I felt like a one legged cat trying to bury a terd on a frozen pond!

Thanks guys for the report on Brocks.

I am looking at a later date of re-barreling my Remington 700 223 into possibly a 204 Ruger.
Checkin' wind and makin' smoke.
That's how I roll...

They fixed another Spokane Smiths mistake on an Ackley Improved '06 for me, that was 20+ years ago.  I'd  highly recommend them.  Check out Mountain Shadow aswell on Newport hwy just south of Franks Diner.
I personally wouldn't use Mountain Shadow again.  A friend and I have both used him and while he did good work he was very slow.  Took over a week for my buddy to get his gun back and he just needed a hole re tapped for a scope mount.  Told him it would be a couple days.  I had a trigger installed by them and was told it would be a couple days.  Turned into over two weeks.  With that said, I have not used Brocks but have talked to them a couple times about various things.

I find it offensive that there are some on here who feel the need to bitch about any gunsmiths in this area. With all that has happened in the elections and such there are those who still want to bust someones balls over their gun getting fixed by whoever, professional smith or freelance wanna be smith. :bash: We should all get behind them because fact is they are a dying breed, and the crap coming down the legislative pipe isn't going to help their business at all!

I too have been into Mountain Shadow Arms. Many times. Always with results, may not have been what I wanted to hear (needed a new Receiver), but at least I got an honest no BS assessment on my build.

In the above quote I am guessing that gentleman wanted his gun fixed right away. He was told a couple days. Great. Maybe instead of busting balls he should look at the dynamics of the business.

Probably a one man show doing all the gunsmithing? Answering phone calls? Calling customers their gun is done and ready to pick up? Working on guns?  Engaging on endless customer rants and raves of certain discussions that probably went like: "I got this at a gun show and it won't fire" , or, " have you ever worked on a 1911, because I have a stuck case and I have been reloading". :mor:

My point is with all the interuptions I bet the guy has to schedule to take a piss. :pee:

I would venture to say maybe you felt the need to be bumped to the front of the line because your gun was just a simple retaping of a hole! Moreover I am guessing there were probably over 100 guns in front of you when you came into that store.  :yike:

Personally I would have seen all those before me and said " this guy must really know his trade" but hey,  that is just me, and I would feel good that the job would be done right! Regardless of the time of completion.

My advise  is the next time you go into a gunsmith asking for priority keep in mind there are many guys who simply can't fix their guns and rely on these gunsmiths for their expertise. Which is why they continue to own a business and support the local economy and above all they Support our right to keep and bear our arms!

Help them help you get your guns running.  You as competent gun owners, hunters, and enthusiasts appreciate what they do! :brew:

everyone's entitled to their opinion and everyone has their own experiences.  my experiences at brocks and mountain shadow have prompted me to recommend anyone that asks that they should never darken the door of either establishment, elections and coming regulations be-damned.

Doesn't matter what kind of business you own, if you can't keep promises you won't earn a lot of repeat business from me.  Take your gear where you want and don't think that my experiance is the only way things opperate around his shop.  But customer service is imprtant.   :twocents:

I am thinking April I may actually do some work. Between my new jet boat, hunting and a trip around the world with wifey, my next 12 weeks of vacation are pretty planned up. Getting 26 weeks of vacation a year has ruined me.
