Colville Tribes Manage Wolves With Own Program
« on: November 13, 2012, 10:10:48 PM »
“We’ll manage them,” Peone said. “We’re not in a position where we can allow our ungulate populations to drop to a point where it’s not providing that sustenance opportunity for our membership. There’s a constant need for elk, deer and moose meat. I think it’s wrong not to manage wolves.”

Sirous’s comments were similar.

“It’s about being in balance,” he said. “If you remove all the predators from the equation you’ll find other impacts happen as well. Nature has a good way of setting up that balance for us to follow.”

Krausz was equally adamant.

“There’s definitely a need to manage these animals, and we know that,” he said. “We’re not going to sit idly by and cross our fingers and hope for the best. I’m ultimately responsible for managing big game and providing subsistence opportunities for tribal members and their families for the long haul. That includes managing predator populations, whether it’s black bear, gray wolf or cougar.”

I wish we could hear similar straight talk from the WDFW. but after being beaten down on the Wedge pack issue I don't expect to any time soon :bash:

Can the tribes manage predators on all "ceeded lands" or just their designated reservations?  If they can manage on ceeded lands...

Tim's a good dude and if he says they are going to manage them, then the wolves are going to get the hurt put on them.  :IBCOOL: I hope the Natives kill them all!

It's nice to have dreamers on HuntWA! If only.

I'm looking forward to seeing how this turns out... I hope the Colville tell everyone when they catch a collard animal so that we can try and hold the WDFW/ USFS accountable.  :twocents:

good for them and i'm slowly waiting to hear about our future hunting capabilities.  I'd love to pay a visit to the teanaway pack some time in the future, since it's the only confirmed pack in our area.  I'd like a black pelt wolf headdress.

Joe Peone is a hell of a hunter. I've never seen a better collection of trophies than he and his boys have at their home. I think boneaddict posted some of their pictures on here a long time ago. I'm glad the tribe is actually planning on doing something about the wolves.
