Late Palouse Hunt
« on: November 14, 2012, 02:04:57 PM »
Just got back after my late Palouse hunt and tagging the my largest deer yet.  I hunted hard the first two days on public and feel free to hunt land.  After seeing little sign and few deer and a lot of pheasant hunters I worked in to the farming land.  I received permission on one particular farm and hunted the one day seeing two bucks and a lot of does.  One was a enthusiastic two point that had his nose to the ground following every doe he came near.  The larger four point stayed out on the perimeter, hesitant to come in closer.  The next day I day I saw hardly any deer until about 3:00 when the does started coming into the field.  Soon a large two point and a decent four point showed up but stayed out of range.  Suddenly the four point bolted into the field past my field of view behind a hill.  I peaked over the hill and saw four bucks standing there.  This guy drew the short straw and seemed to be the biggest.  The other bucks were brown and much smaller in the body while this had a huge body and a dark grey color (don't know why the color diff).

Color difference is usually a sign of maturity. You'll notice it the most towards the end of summer. Those mature bucks will typically be darker than the smaller immature bucks. Congratulations on a beautiful buck!!

Way to go! Nice old buck, exactly what the tag was intended for.
Kindly do not attempt to cloud the issue with too many facts.

Congrats on that one. You did good.

I didn't have much of a chance to watch him but his neck was huge and the other bucks I saw were chasing does big time!   One of the greatest hunts I've experienced for sure!
