It has been said that a turkie (facts)
A turkie can see 300 degrees of vision.Vision is equal to a pair of 8 power Bino's.
A turkie can hear you scratching the ground from a 1/4 mile better.
They see color.
If "they" had a sense of smell you would never tip one over. It would be tuffer than any Whitetail you would ever hunt.

For being toted as one of the dumbest animals in the world, they sure have the ability to make us look like idiots.

:chuckle:  I thought the question was going to be about the scent that a turkey has....  I once smelled some upwind of me 40 yards away.

Have to agree with the statement that if they could smell, we would hardly ever be able to get one.

I remember when my wife was gutting one for the first time. She was complaining " holy crap that's worse than a deer". I reminded her it smells alotbetter when it's in the smoker though.

No, if they could they'd be darn near un-killable.

Some believe the moon is made of cheese too....   :chuckle:  With the stuff I've seen our chickens and turkeys eat, there is no way they have a sense of smell.   :o

That scent stuff might be good for training turkey dogs, where you can use them, or for coon trap bait?

"Smell and Taste: Turkeys do not have a highly developed sense of smell. The region of the brain that controls olfaction is relatively small. The sense of taste is believed to be underdeveloped as well. They have fewer taste buds than do mammals and can detect salt, sweet, acid and bitter tastes. "  from

I'm sure it has to do with training turkey dogs.  There are a few states that allow the pursuit of turkeys with dogs.

With that being said.....Yelp has taken it to a new level. :chuckle:

as far as the turk smell behind the ears (yelps prefered scent?)goes i would think that being out in the woods & smelling like a turk, sounding like a turk & acting like a turk could be a baiting problem. whats going to come into that but something that wants to eat a turk?? :chuckle: :chuckle:

It's a good thing you guys said something about that Tink's. I thought it was to spray around the house to get that "in the oven" smell. Whew, that would've been bad.
