How would these folks feel if you glassed their living-rooms?
Quote from: furiouzgeorge on November 20, 2012, 07:59:53 PMHow would these folks feel if you glassed their living-rooms? Oh...where to start. Your analogy above is entirely inappropriate and demonstrates that you have little understanding of the North American model of wildlife conservation. As I've stated previously, IF someone shoots a deer illegally (from the road, on private land etc.) then hang em high. HOWEVER, if they are on a public road watching PUBLIC wildlife then who are you or any landowner to judge them? I'm a taxpaying citizen and if I want to drive on the public's roads and view the public's wildlife that is my prerogative. Your statement that viewing wildlife from a road portrays hunters in a bad light may not be accurate...I think it shows that hunters have a sincere interest in wildlife...even if they can't harvest them (assuming of course they keep it to just watching and don't cross the line and illegally harvest one). To compare viewing wildlife owned by the PUBLIC with someone viewing a privately owned living room is completely misguided. We all own the wildlife...an individual(s) owns the living room. This is not Europe where wildlife is owned by some monarch, this is the USA. Many private landowners live where they do to enjoy wildlife, why should they be the only ones who get to enjoy this PUBLIC resource? Maybe these landowners should consider how fortunate they are to live where they do and not complain if others want to enjoy wildlife in a non-consumptive manner. Have I clearly made my point that the wildlife is OWNED BY THE PUBLIC!!!
Yes here in the PNW everybody has adopted a behavior of entitlement! Seems instead of doing your own homework and putting in the hard work or scouting and planning need not apply. It's a liberal belief that's what's yours is mine and what's mine is mine own.Guessing you voted for Obama...
Tman, I've gotta say that I'm ashamed of the response on this thread. Most are ok, but some are really stupid. It's obvious that a few of these guys on here are glassing your field ;-). While I find it perfectly legal, it's not very helpful to the cause of making hunters look less like rednecks who shoot from their trucks!!! We're supposed to be careful about the reputation we portray to the public because we ARE the minority and we can be legislated out of our privilege to hunt in this state, or have that privilege restricted beyond reasonable enjoyment. I'm suspicious of anyone glassing my place whether they are hunters or not. How would these folks feel if you glassed their living-rooms? While I accept the fact that public roads bordering private land should be open for use by all, most public roads are two lane which would make wildlife viewing a bit of a traffic hazard. Not to mention most of the above posters are better off watching the road than rubber-necking to find deer. Let's be honest guys, we've all seen the dude cruising along a field or patch of timber with his head stuck out his window hoping to catch a glimpse of Bambi. It's more than obvious when I see them that they are NOT just into wildlife viewing. I'll give you all the benefit of a doubt and assume that you are, but PLEASE don't further damage the reputation of hunters in the process. If you are hunting please do your leg work before the season starts so you can have ample time to talk to the land-owner without the pressure of an open hunting season looming over you. All in all, maybe Tman's over-reacting. But I've very rarely seen sporting and responsible hunters behind the wheel 'cruising' around other folks property. The sporting and responsible guys are either already quartering their deer or anywhere between 500 yards to 10 miles in!

Today, I went scouting so I could be supercool and put in my hard work just like all of the really cool superhunters. On the way home I had the AUDACITY to slow down and glass some deer in an area that I couldn't even hunt. I'm sure I violated somebody, somewhere....
I don't see anything wrong with glassing deer in someones field. Especially in Washington when you can go a full day without seeing one. As far as road hunting, not sure why it bothers people so much. Ive killed deer sitting, walking, and driving. All my biggest deer were killed driving in the rut. Not everyone, in fact most arent doing it with the intent to kill.
Ummmmmm. Just you then???
