Mule Deer Migration
« on: November 16, 2012, 07:50:22 AM »
I know the snow level has been fluctuating from about 3500-5500' the past week or so.  Anybody seen much indication of the migration picking up?

Looks like were going to get some heavy percip, snow in the mountains rain in the low lands...hopefully this will encourage their march downhill for the late archery hunt.

The areas that I know migration routes for the deer drop to a staging or transition area in late October/ealy November for the rut then finish their migration to the winter range just before Thanksgiving typically.  The intial migration from the high country to this transition area is primarily triggered by the rutting season and the remainder of the migration from transition to winter range is more influenced by weather and the ability to access feed easily.  This is of course just my opinion and/or what I have learned over the years.  What do you think boneaddict or antler king?

Thanks for the info...I definitely was curious as to whether or not the snow or rut encouraged their movement more. Really looking forward to the late hunt next week.

It was snowing like crazy in the hills around twisp yesterday. 6-8" up top in a few spots. Deer seem to be moving down.
