ME neither!  You must really be struggling with it.  Wish my job would have let me make the long drive to help out, I would be just getting there about now...........

Charlie just called and they got it all out with MJ's (and buddies?) help.  He sounded pretty happy!  He'll be home tomorrow.  Yeh!

WHOOOO!  What a DAY!!!!  Its 2:33 AM and my buddy (also named travis, as is bowsNhos who is in the same camp with charlie) just got back about 30 minutes ago.  I have pictures on my camera, but i'm at school and my STUPID laptop doesn't have a slot for my kind of memory card, and neither does Travis'....  So no pics for tonight guys but I'll tell you one thing, that bull is a STUD!

Charlie even got to video the bull yesterday (thursday) and that was super cool!  We got to the trail head around 6:15 this evening, hiked in a ways to where we thought we'd be and met Gerry (travis' father) and he was bringing some water and munchies to the guys but wasn't sure exactly where they were located....  So all three of us headed in their direction and come upon BowsNHos with the head/cape on his back!  What a way to get pumped!  He was the one elected to carry it because he was the tallest guy in camp and the antlers literally drag the ground while on anybody elses back!!

So me and my buddy take off alone with our packs and head down and meet Charlie who looks like he's about to die just as he's climbing out of the third realm of hell... lol
Sit down, introduce ourselves and he points us in the right direction.  At this point we only have about an hour left of light, so we take off down into the abyss...   :chuckle:

Found the remaining two meat bags hanging no problem literally 10 FEET away from the creek at the bottom of this drainage!  The bull sure had the last laugh on Charlie (and us!).  But we were pumped to even be involved and to help out so loaded with 70 lbs of pack and meat and misc stuff we head up the mountain.  Made the 1500' elevation gain going straight up in about 35 minutes which we thought was great!  Took a 10 minute rest on the top of the ridge, and hiked out the remaining 2 miles in the dark arriving at the truck I think around 9:40 PM....  :IBCOOL:

The bull is a STUD and you cannot fault him on ANYTHING!  AWESOME MASS, MAIN BEAMS, FRONTS, THIRDS, FOURTHS, FIFTHS AND SIXES!!!  It was truly awesome to help out and me and my buddy were pretty freakin excited about the whole thing!

Good luck to BowsNHos tomorrow!  Seemed like there was a "chill" in the air tonight and the rut could really kick in any day now!

For now, I'm super sore, and am going to bed.  I've already gotten 10 hours sleep combined for the last two nights and tonight I'm hoping to get 8 or so!  Thanks again Charlie for letting us help ya out and no guy deserves it more!  Congrats man!

Michael

PS:  Sorry for no pics we thought for sure we could get some on here tonight!  Will hopefully post tomorrow as I'm going to Wal Mart to try and get them made into a CD!

Nice job on helping him out, way cool, good way to get in condition for your high hunt as well.  Sounds like the pics will be worth the wait for sure.

Damn Michael, what are you doing next week?  Nicely done gentleman.  Thanks for helping Charlie get that meat out.  That was one of my bad thoughts on my trip.  5 miles in, I figured about 6 trips with meat camp and cape and horns.  I figured 60 miles in one day to get it out so it doesn't spoil was alot to swallow for a guy.  DOUBLE thumbs to you guys again.  Sure some quality folks on here.

That is so cool.  Thanks for the post MJ.  I can't believe I had to miss out on that this year..... :(  Thats my husband!  What a man!  I am so proud and there are obviously a lot of other people that are too (By the way Charlie, Randy says he's proud too)  A dream come true for sure.  I'm still dreaming!  NEVER let go of those dreams boys and I know I'm in the minority here being a woman but I know where I belong and its in the woods!  Talkin' with you all here has been fun and I honestly don't have anyone else to talk to that would understand quite how exciting this all is.  Thanks guys.  Way to go to everyone that has helped Charlie out!  Kelley Smith

Hi Kelley, it's ok with us if you let him sleep in  - just post a picture of the ANTLERS  ;)
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.

Thanks for the kind words guys... It was really awesome!  It was a great trip thats for sure and me and my buddy (Kudos to him!  He's soon to join the forum as well!!!) both agreed this is one of the BEST experiences/trips we've taken so far in our high school career!  We were joking on the way back;
"Some people would call Charlie crazy to tagging an elk in that hell hole!  That was a steep SOB!"
"Dude, we just drove 2 1/2 hours on 30 minutes notice to go help a total stranger pack out a bull out of a nasty canyon, I think we're the ones who are a little crazy!!!"
 :chuckle:

I'm on my way to Wal Mart....   :IBCOOL:

Oh and by the way, we did rough score him....  but you guys got to wait!  HAHA!   :hello:

Right on Chaz!!!! You deserve that bull. Anybody wiiling to go head up with country like that by themselves, passing on bulls that most would consider a trophy? Your the man!!! Congrats to the meat packers as well, there are some good fellers on this site! Later
