Intentionally Eating an Antlerless Permit

Well i ate a cow tag last year!  I put in because it would be a fun hunt if I didnt draw something else.  Jenna and I both killed bulls and bucks out of state so there was no reason to kill another cow.  Why would it matter to anyone else if they fill their tags or not?

There are urban areas near Spokane with far too many deer. When you are driving down a residential road in mid day summer and see 15-20 deer per block these areas definitely need some thinning to avoid runins with people and cars.I feel archery hunting in urban areas where legal is a good way to remove some deer and add to the animals fear of humans as well. I have no problem shooting an antlerless or female animalwhere and when allowed. But I still would rather shoot a bull or buck. That said I think the second deer tag price is a bit much.

If they pay for the permit, it's up to them. If they just apply and then don't buy it, they suck. Doe permits are sold ostensibly because the deer population in that area needs to come down. There's a reason for them to be sold.

Maybe look at it this way....if someone has an cow/doe/whatever tag in an area you would like to draw for and doesn't fill it....well.....better for you if you draw next year!

I drew my first second deer permit this year. I was lucky enough to harvest a Bull and a buck already so I dont really need a doe.  While I don't want the tag to to waste, I also don't want to risk wasting any meat.  Intentionally wasting a tag seems stupid to me.

You have to remember that even if you never had any interest in hunting a cow or doe and had put in for a special permit in the past you were given equal points arcoss the board in those antlerless categories. I'm sure there are a lot of us that didn't have antlerless interest that were all of a sudden toward the top of the list of the antlerless categories. Those people may still have zero interest but just apply to dump the category.

I think I would intentionally eat the doe I killed with the permit... Other than that I wouldn't apply for it if I didn't intend to use it if drawn....

People around here do it to prevent cows from being killed.  They will get a tag and throw it in the garbage and start applying again next year.  They say "potentially saving a cow is worth $6"

Thats why they shouldn't allow hunters to draw mutiple tags , draw in order of preferance ie quailty , bull , antlerless . one you draw one catigory then lock it .
