I have a older knight bighorn .50 caliber and the secondary safety will still let my hammer hit the cap even if it is screwed to the safe position. I also noticed that my hammer assembly is a little different than my buddy's. mine has a rounded, almost pointed face where it strikes the nipple, his is flat faced. My gun was set up for 209 when I bought it.QuoteYou do have a 209 hammer or universal hammer installed in your rifle. You might be able to get a flat cap hammer from Knight. There should not be a difference in length.I wonder if the secondary safety is actually screwing all the way in. Pull the hammer back to full cocked position. There should be a red line around the threaded portion. Screw the secondary safety in all the way it should come close to covering the red line when it is is all the way in.Quote My gun goes off every time, but I don't like the fact that the secondary safety is there but does not work. My question is this.. Is there certain hammer for 209 and certain ones for musket caps? I called knight and the gal I talked to was about as helpful as a rotten log, she could not grasp my question at all.My suggestion call Knight and ask for technical service.. Gordy should get back to you. I am Kennewick today when I get back to Moscow I will get some pictures pictures... for you.Another thing you can do is pull the hammer assembly from the reciever and screw the secondary in as far as it will go. Graps the hammer in your hand to hold it will compressing the hammer spring.
