1st buck
« on: September 10, 2008, 08:56:53 AM »
Took my son and his boss out elk hunting but did;nt see any but spotted 3 bucks all spikes. I had read what is an ethecial shot with a bow and did;nt know what to think of him shooting as they were 60 yards. He had the new range finder from nikon that is called the archers choice and it really worked good. Anyway he shots and hit the deer right behind the shoulder and I about fell over. The deer went about 100 yards and stopped then slowley laid down. When we cleaned the deer the arrow had went through the center of the heart. I have see lots of rifle shots but this was my first chance to see something shot with a bow and it was awesome. He had only shot one deer before and that was a doe with a rifle he was so happy it made for a great day. Being able to watch the stalk and wittness the shot and see what a bow can do makes me see why everyone is so excited to bow hunt it was one of my most memerable hunts.

Thats great!!!  I think the biggest thing (atleast it was for me), is that an arrow kill is so quiet.... you are stalking a deer, draw silently, shoot silently (unless your shooting a mathews! haha Go HOYT!  :IBCOOL:), and then a deer is dead... pretty surreal experience thats for sure!

Congrats to him on a his first bow kill. I've got a pic of a doe that I shot through the heart with a mechanical broadhead openend the heart right up.
