Blacktail calling and scents
« on: December 05, 2012, 07:25:14 PM »
How late in the year do you have success with estrus scents and/or a bleat call for blacktail bucks.  I am after a dandy and have some substantial time off in late December.  Should I bother using much of either?

well some times the does can go thru several cycles before getting bred. The late cycle explains why I have seen real small tracks in September. I would say it's worth a try. I have put doe in heat out on some of my cam sites late in the year and have pics of a buck sniffing the rag with the scent on it. It is a good way to see if the scent works.

I have called deer in almost everyday I have been out ...it works but you need to cover lots a ground to find that one deer that will respond ....soft grunts and a primos can ...I start out with 3 or 4 grunts and then roll the can over once or twice ..Hang out for 20 min or so then move on ...
