all I need is a doe.......where are they?
« on: December 09, 2012, 08:36:06 PM »
This being my first year hunting I haven't set any extreme goals for myself. All I'm looking to do is stick a doe with the bow. I've put a ton of miles on the boots during late archery so far. Last weekend down in Winston I bumped 3 doe's in a swampy alder stand and that's the closest I've got so far. Me and addicted2hunting were in 407 today closer to Monroe. On the way to the spot we were going to hunt we spotted a doe in someone's driveway. We got up into the snow at one of the gates by lake Rossiger. The snow was very crunchy though so we didn't stay long. However, we walked in at least a mile and didn't see any fresh tracks in the snow. We also checked a spot ive been thinking about by crescent lake but we couldnt get to the timber stand we wanted due to too much water in a slough. So we ended up checking a spot in 460 (I know...buck only in there). Didn't see any deer while we were in there but while driving down Ben Howard we saw a doe and a yearling on the side of the road.

So the three deer we saw today were seen in the dark.  they're nocturnal in bow season too? ;) My question is if all I'm looking for is a doe, what sort of timber should I be looking for? Should I focus on alder stands more in the lowlands or does it really matter?

If anyone should feel the urge to send me a pm on where there's a good doe population that could use thinning, I'm not opposed to that. ;)

thank you,

Drew

Yep, you can pretty much hand feed them at Lokidog's house.  :chuckle:
