Mason/Kitsap?
« on: December 20, 2012, 10:09:53 AM »
I recently purchased some recreation / retirement property in he Allyn area . After this early season and all the shut downs I'm not going to put all my eggs in one basket . I plan on starting to scout some areas along HWY. 3 between Shelton and Bremerton just after the first of the year . Can any one tell me how much if any of that land was shut down do to fire danger? I don't want to waste another winter/spring/summer scouting an area I won't be able to hunt . Thanks

i think all of it was shut down this year but it was also the worst fire year in a long time. all that area out there along highway 3 is only open for early archery though too and closed for late season. Just a few more miles and you are in the kitsap gmu and it is open for both seasons.

If I recall correctly, that land between belfair and shelton is 95% Green Diamond land

green diamond is the first to shut its gates when the fire danger picks up. if you guys want to hunt around here both early and late seasons you should really think more around seabeck / green mountain , basically the kitsap GMU instead of the Mason GMU. an the tahuya area is crawling with atv and dirt bikes all winter on the weekends.

Green Diamond will close their gates right after the first of the year and usually won't open them until almost hunting season. I say almost because it's usually weather related. I've seen them open for archery on wet years but they've been closed until modern on dry years.

Thanks, I do know the area around Green Mt. as well as an area up the hill from KBH a little bit .  When you guys say "shut the gates " does that mean no walk ins as well . I tried to get some info from Green Diamond web site but it pretty much was useless.
