Ground Blind for Coyotes?
« on: December 26, 2012, 10:23:59 AM »
Can I use a ground blind to hunt coyotes with a bow?  I've got a good area with plenty of coyotes next to my house, and I got a Lone Howler Decoy for Christmas.  I will be out there in the next few days trying to do a little learning about this new game of coyote hunting.  I've got a .223 that shoots better than I can, but I'd really like to get one with my longbow or recurve.

Do you think I could put a ground blind up downwind of a decoy maybe 100 yards or so and have a coyote come in?  Or would a new blob in the field scare them away?

I have a very small teepee like blind that is great for rifle hunting.  Never had a coyote come it but used it deer hunting in open area and they walked by at 20 yards like I wasn't there.  this was on a well used game trail that they probably used everyday.  The only problem with small blinds I found is they are too small to draw and shoot a bow.  I have a cheapy square blind that is nice and easy to use for sitting behind.  i can use that for both bow hunting and rifle.  The large square blinds are nice but more work with set up and carry.  also where I hunt in the sage for coyotes too much ground brush for something too large.  so I am definitely sold on the blinds effectiveness.

Around here all you would need for a ground blind is a white sheet.  I  went out today to hopefully do 3 or 4 sets. Maybe I'm getting old @ 64 but after trudging through crotch deep snow for 1 mile on snowshoes I decided my second set was going to be back in the rig headed home...
Good luck to the rest of the contestants
