   Yep that's me, the big procrastinator.  For a long time I wanted to get an AR for coyote hunting, just never did.  I finally decided to pull the trigger and get one around Thanksgiving and started looking at exactly what type of varmiter I wanted.  Now I'm FUBAR'd.  I didn't want to spend much over $1000.  Now that is a distant memory.  I realize if a ban is actually enacted I'll never be able to get one at the prices it was before.  However if they do not get a ban enacted, how long before you think the prices will come back down to the somewhat reasonable area?  Or do you think they will stay inflated now that there is a serious backlog?  How do you guys see this playing out?  Should I just go ahead and bite the bullet and get one now (if I can even find one) before they are in fact banned?  Is there anywhere to buy a complete gun or even parts still?  Thanks for any thoughts and or inputs.

me too.  I managed to buy a few lowers, and am backordering parts to be delivered in the future

They are going to get a "Ban" of some sort. They wanted a "Change" the people spoke, now they can reap the  results of their ballot choice. A ban on assault rifles and hi-cap mags are pretty much a sure thing. The rest ( No private sales without a FFL transfer etc) will all be up for grabs. Parts will still be readily available. Shouldn't be much different than the original ban the Clinton Administrions imposed but they aren't going to make the same mistake they felt they made in the past, they will set the new "Ban" in stone without a expiration date.

Then they will add to the base ban when they can, the bottom line is. It's about firearms in general, the vast mojority of the true left dislike firearms period.

I'm not so sure on the ban. I'm not sure they will get it through the House and I bet the Senate is hoping it is killed there because they don't really have the stomach for it.  If it does somehow get through the House then all bets are off, it'll pass the Senate and Obama will sign it.  I'm just not sure about the House, thank god we didn't lose the House in this last election.

I've been watching this pretty closely as well.  I agree with Hammer that they won't put an expiry on the bill, whatever it ends up being, but I don't think they will be able to define "Assault Rifles" well enough to be able to completely ban your typical AR-style rifle.  The chance of intruding into the semi-automatic shotgun market is what will kill a potential ban on ALL semi-auto weapons, IMHO.  It will be hard to buy an AR set up the way you want it, but as Hammer states there will be a burgeoning aftermarket parts supply business.  Hi-cap mags?  Hope you have a friend with some that will let you borrow a few, because those are going to go away for good.  Gun show "loophole" will attempt to be closed, not sure how they'll pull that off though.  Don't know if they could push through an FFL transfer for all private party sales without compulsory registration of all weapons currently in circulation.
I'm in the same boat as you though, Machias.  I just, over the last year, started really appreciating the AR platform after a serious delinquent from here let me send a few downrange from his (nod to H20hunter).  I'm going to hold off to buy until the hysteria dies down now though.  There is some seriously high prices being paid on spec that is creating a "black gun bubble".  It's my opinion that gun prices will come down to more familiar levels soon after the diluted legislation is passed.  The only worry I have is that an emboldened 2nd term Obama will issue an EO if he's not satisfied that the legislation is strict enough.  Going to have to wait for a good Republican to take the helm to undo that one.

From what I have read it will need a lot of the house republicans and all of the democrats for it to pass.  I'm not saying it couldn't happen but I think as the emotions settle the chances of it passing will slowly start to fade.  But, I really won't be surprised to see some form of new regulations somewhere

I agree, we won't come out of this unscathed, just not sure what it will be.  I guess I need to watch the videos on building and start collecting pieces when and where I can.

My crystal ball says that if a ban is not enacted, that prices will remain high through June. There are probably enough back orders ALREADY to push the wait list out that far.

Also, even if the ban isn't passed, Remington, Colt, et al will either expand lines or increase overtime and round the clock shifts to meet demand. That means more investments, fixed costs, and salaries. That will mean higher prices.

Even if you pay a bit more for the lower than normal.. at least get your order into a reliable source... as long as the order is date marked you will get the order shipped even if the AWB goes thru....

We can hope. it depends upon how the bill is written whether just getting the order in makes you good to go.
