My daughter wants to know how old your daughter is.  Mine is only 7 wishing she could shoot an elk.  I think mine has a few more years before she can handle the kick of a gun.

Very cool, my 11 year old daughter just bagged her first elk... memories they'll never forget!

On a side note, my girls want to know if you'll adopt them.  I wouldn't buy them Sitka Gear, told them they'd outgrow it too fast for as spendy as it was!

Thanks for making me look bad :chuckle:

If we were supposed to be vegetarian God would have made broccoli more fun to shoot!
"HOYT" why would you even consider shooting something else?

Thank you everybody, you are all awesome!  I've read her your comments and it made her day.  I've met a lot of you already, gotten a lot of help this year on my hunts from some, I've tried to help others with what I know, just a awesome group of people and hope to meet more in the future.  Thanks again everybody!

My daughter passed HS at age 7 then turned 8 in September just before last years modern season's.  I wouldn't let her hunt last year at age 8 being so young, I just wanted to get her going on points as young as possible.  This year at age 9 she drew her Cow permit on 2 points so being a low pressure hunt I let her do it.  Good luck with your lil girl, and whatever you decide.

That is awesome, one of the best elk posts this year. I would like to see more of those late cow tags youth only hunts.  You both should be very proud.

Congratulations to your daughter and to the proud papa!

I've smelled a lot of nasty things working in the hunting and fishing industry since age eleven.  But that hoof rot takes the cake!  The wife's bull last year was rank as all heck.  Even after cutting the leg off and tossing it as far as we could the mane still had the stench.  I would assume from scratching with that foot.  I took the horns and cape out last as to not taint any of the meat which was just fine (though I did give a large margin of error on that back leg.)  I soaked my pack in Simple Green for two days.  Then in Orange Juice for a day.  And then in shampoo used on dogs who have had a run in with a skunk.  It's now been a little over 12 months and I am about to through the pack away.  Just can not get that stink out!  I am now carrying a couple large trash bags in my pack just in case it happens again.

I hate to call up Eberle and ask for a new one because I had to burn the one he gave me.  Maybe I should send it to him in a nice air tight container ;)  Then let him decide what to do with it!
He asked, Do you ever give a short simple answer?  I replied, "Nope."
