The Bird Babe is Home
« on: September 16, 2008, 11:10:43 AM »
So we got our female English Setter "Claire" back from Doug at Upland Dogs in Ellensburg Sunday. WOW She is a different dog.  She is going to be a magnificent hunting partner.  His work with this dog was amazing.

I have to say I was unsure if she would "get it"  Claire is a rescue dog I adopted out of St. Louis last winter.  She was found in a dog pound ridden with fleas and heart worms and was scheduled to be put down.  She was a 1 1/2 yrs old and had been fixed.  She was of great breading and we guess she must have wondered off as a pup and survived on her own as best as she could till she was picked up.

A setter rescue group found her and placed her with a foster lady who posted her pic on their web site.  I had rescued a male setter a few years back and he has turned into a great hunting dog so i thought I would try it again.  After we flew her out here and got her adjusted it just didn't seem like she had the hunting bug and was very timid.  That's when I decided to turn her training over to Doug Burnett.   She needed a pro to get her started. And boy did he ever.

My gal was able to shoot a couple birds over her n Sunday and damn it was exciting.  I can't wait for the season.  I now have 2 working dogs which will take some of the burdon off my male.

Thanks go out to people who rescue these dogs and the Foster Lady who cared enough to post her pic.  I made a You tube video for the Foster lady so she would remember Claire.  Most of you guys won't enjoy this but your wives and daughters will.
