I think i have said this before somewhere, but i hope its structured something like this : Within every School, there are staff members that come from a gun culture of some kind,  or the Military, regardless of the position they hold, members should be allowed to volunteer for pool, to be considered for this Responsibility. those that volunteer (if any at all) will be evaluated for acceptance, if accepted for consideration, would then have the same background check Police go through, if passed, they can then be considered and approved for this Responsibility by School administrators and Police. this is voluntary so there is no cost and an approved weapon must be carried, and kept concealed and on that staff member at all times when carried, and if the staff member even chooses to carry on that particular day. These staff members can train with police, and participate in approved police training at no cost to any party.  Those staff that participate will simply conduct the duties they were hired for and are doing. They will not participate in patrolling or security work, they will simply do there job.

Maybe a school has a staff member participating in this, maybe it has 3, or maybe none at all......nobody will know. This is my wish.

OK, I jumped the gun, (pun intended) and posted before i read her plan, lol, I guess great  minds think alike.

I really don't want to see teachers armed unless we become Israel with compulsory military service.

Well my numbers will be off, i think its alot higher now, but in the last 20 years i think there have been well over a thousand students, teachers and principals shot in and on school property, mostly in secondary schools of course, and most gang related, but its a pretty high number. it was like 900 ten years ago, haven't looked since then, but its gotta be quite high now. SRO's diminish Safety in my mind, they are not even in the school they are assigned half the time, (training, court, etc etc) they always park in the same place, stand in the same place and anyone with any intent on ill will will know whether they are there or not. i maybe wrong on this as well, but to my knowledge, i am aware of only one active shooter stopped by police, in a school, and this was in Alaska and i met this Officer during some training, there may be a few others, but i am not aware.. I as well met with Survivors of that Moses lake Mass shooting in this same training. these three people had a completely different opinion on school safety than those that keep saying "I don't want teachers carrying guns" They just wanted somebody to stop the shooter.    More "Active" school shooters have been stopped by armed citizens and school employees, than by Police, its a sad fact but true.

look at Columbine, for over thirty minutes an army of police stood outside, listening to kids being shot, without one officer entering....look at SandyHook, the first officer arrived, and heard shots being fired and couldn't get into the school, because it was locked down. this is from his and two other officers own words while being interviewed by i think it was CNN, which i watched with my own eyes.

A question that can be asked, is who is most likely going to stop an "ACTIVE"  Shooter? The Officers/SRO that's probably not even going to be there,  and that will be locked out when he/they arrive, or even when they do arrive, are hindered and delayed by their procedures, that will not allow them to enter until they can form an active shooter team, and then enter confusion and chaos where every male looks like a suspect, slowing them down even more......or......is it that staff member, that's already in the bldg, knows the kids, is already immersed in the situation and knows exactly whats going on because he is there, has undergone the same character and backround requirements as that of a police officer and has a tool at his/her disposal to stop it.

As far as Elementary schools are concerned, i personally am not worried much....Gun incidents of anykind are incredibly rare, and little kids like to hug, so it could be awkward.....I'm speaking of Secondary Schools.

It's just something to think about.
