Rimfire Rifles
« on: January 17, 2013, 03:29:42 PM »
I have been debating picking up a 10/22 for my son to plink with while we are at the range, cost of ammo being the determining factor of caliber. I have a .17hmr that is a blast to shoot but the cost of ammo compared to the .22LR has always had me thinking of getting the Ruger.

I was at Cabelas today and went to check the price of .22LR ammo and was surprised to see they were out. :yike: Now I can somewhat see the panic and people clearing the shelves of .223 but why are people hoarding .22LR ammo? There were tons of .17hmr, even decent priced at $12.99/box of 50. :dunno:

I just got a new AR 15-22 M and P rifle before the craze started. I was going to get a 10-22 but also wanted an AR someday. I went with the AR style so I could have the best of both worlds. Cheap shooting and AR style. I aked myself this also as I cant find any 22LR ammo now. Id love to know too?

I understand that but why the hoarding all of a sudden? People have always wanted them for cheap practicing, what is different now?

What is different now is that guys are making cash available to buy ammo, probably any ammo....and when the .223 is gone, atleast they come home with something else.... A tiny bit of security for some guys too as the anticipation of dopeys announcement built...

look at California and look at the new laws in NY.  Our new Gov Inslee just said gun control will play a major role in his admin.

multiple reasons for the22 ammo hoarding. they are looking at possibilities to ban all lead ammo. The 1022 is on the target list because it is semi auto and can hold mags over 10 rdS. Looking to ban all Internet shipment of ammo and  looking at banning or limiting the interstate movement of ammo. They are also looking at limiting amount of ammo a person can buy at one time and registering all ammo purchases. This can all be accomplished without congress approval.

I have been buying bricks of 22 ammo, 223, 9mm, 308 for the past few years when I saw it on sale. Just picked up 5 more bricks of 22 ammo down in the Tri Cities today.

How do you like that rifle? Been thinking of getting one. I haven't found one locally yet. Be a good plinker for the back yard and for my daughter when she is a bit older.

I like good bolt actions, especially for kids.
A bolt with irons develops more skills and makes that ammo last a lot longer.

I was in Cabelas last Tuesday.  Did a quick check on .22lr as it was completely gone the previous time I checked.  Low and behold...two 100 round boxes (that was all).  Funny just before I picked them up another guy asked what i was looking for.  I said 22 lr.  He said "good luck".  Should have seen the look on his face when I picked them up and said, "here's two boxes" and put them in my cart.  Guess he missed them. :chuckle:

Got to love it! I did the same thing with primers yesterday. The guy said they did not have any. I looked behind the counter and saw both types I was looking for. Said I will take both them bricks to the guy working there. He handed them to me and the guys jaw just dropped :chuckle: Then he tried to start a fight with me about buying the bricks. I told him they would only last me a month or 2 so I wish they has 12 of them :chuckle:

We got 3 .22 rifles. A 10/22, a M&P 15-22, and my favorite a Henry .22 lever action with a octagon barrel. And we just picked up over 2000 rds of ammo last week.

i've got a bolt action .22, a CZ452.  nice looking gun, accurate as hell, and a lot of fun to shoot.  i can also scratch the plinking itch with a 50 round box of cartridges, where i'd blow through one of those in a few minutes with a semi auto :chuckle:
you can still get gas in heaven, and a drink in kingdom come,
in the meantime, i'll be cleaning my gun

The fear of legislation with all the gun control Derp going on. It may boil down to taxing the living hell out of ammo. Buy low sell high attitude.

Its a really nice, really expensive 22LR. Lol
It shoots great and seems to eat any ammo I feed it. I got the MAGPUL model with the desert tan accesories. And bought the rest of the mags they had in stock at Bens Loans. Glad I did even these mags were 50 buck at the show this weekend. I paid 16 each for them.

I added a Vortex Strike Fire sight too it also. Now its a 700 dollar 22LR. Lol
My friend has the Colt model and its finiky with allot of ammo. Im darn happy with it. It looks and shoots great!
