They have powdered metal rods in the engine that do not like HP/Torque and they have had head gasket issues.  I prefer my older 7.3L powered F350 :IBCOOL:

+1!
You can't beat the 7.3!  Mine is a 97 and the only thing that I have go bad was the alternator.  I know too many people who have had a lot of problems with the 6.0.  One of my hunting buddies got rid of his after replacing the injectors for the third time, the glow plugs, cam sensor etc.  Like Wackmaster said, you will regret it.  On the other hand, it still beats owning a DuraMax!   ;)

salesman was right, nothing wrong with the 2005-2007 6.0 though, 2004s have some problems especially with leaking oil.  from all i've heard 2006 is the best year engine wise

i have an 05 and love the *censored* out of it. My friend has an 03 and he has had some electrical problems like cam sensors and what not but nothing major. I also had a 97 with 7.3 and as much as i liked that truck it does not compare to the 6 liter. not even close.

My Excursion has the 7.3 and I've had no issues at all. Some friends had minor issues with their 6.0.

Look at the varied responses, well i will add to it. I know a guy that has two 250`s, one with a 6.0 and one with 7.3. He has no trouble with the 6.0 but he can`t keep the 7.3 out of the shop, he hates it. I guess it is like anything else, you get good ones and you get bad ones. like someone else said, i guess it beats owning a duramax, not by much though lol.

First, make sure that thing is really a 6L.  There were some early 03 models built with 7.3L, very desirable.  I would be very cautious buying an 03 or 04, but feel a lot better with a later model.  Do some research online on what they call an Oasis Report.  Get the VIN and have an Oasis run.  It is a documentation report that will disclose all warranty repairs done on that vehicle.  There are thousands of guys on forums like this venting about their problems with the 6L, but there are many times more that are happy owners.  There are good ones out there, just harder to find.  Love my 7.3.

I should tell you that mine was a 04 and i heard that the 05 and 06 were fine. I don't know about the 03.I talked to a ford mechanic and he said the 04 had a bad manifold design and The carbon would build up.That would lead to pieces of carbon breaking off and clogging an injector.
