Springfield XD 40 cal Opinions
« on: January 21, 2013, 11:34:43 AM »
Looking for some reviews on the XD Sub compact 40 cal. or any other 40 cal reviews.

time for a new conceal. Not sure if I'll carry it on ankle or owb.  Giving sigp238 to wife to carry.  I have read good reviews online but looking for other opinions good and bad.

Thanks
Mike--lostbackpacker--

I have had my XD40 SubCompact for about 6 years and I love it.
Most of all it shoots great an is very safe to carry.Depending on my attire I use a cole different holsters.

I have 3 of them all in .40. I carry the sub everyday, the service when I am hunting and I have the 5'" tactical that is worked on for competitions.  I really love these guns.  I wouldn't reccommend carrying on the ankle.  they aren't the lightest guns out there and I don't think it would be comfortable.  I also don't like having to get out of a defensive posture to access my weapon. :twocents:

I've never carried on the ankle either.

If you go with the XD ( vs XDm), you just want to get the finish they switched to like 6-7 years ago. I have one from just prior and they are prone to rust.

I've been looking hard at the XDS, but its a .45, I like how thin it is. Also, been considering a Walther in 9 or .40. The 9 ammo is just so much cheaper, at least it used to be.

I had an XD 40 Sub-Compact.  Not a thing against it.  Shot good.  Got an FNX-9 and was so impressed with it, I sold the XD 40 and got an FNP-40 when one came up.  Guess I'm just old-school--I like a hammer on my handguns.  If you are set on a striker-fired gun, FN is now making a gun called the FNS.  For a full-sized pistol, they are amazingly compact.  And I like that they come with three 17-round mags, and 4 backstraps.  :twocents:

The difference between an XD andXDM, XDM I believe has a target barrel, better trigger and interchangeable straps. The XDS is a single satck. Thinner profile. Holds fewer rounds.

Another difference between the XD and XDM is that you don't have to pull the trigger to release the slide on take-down.
That was one of the hang-ups that discouraged the XD for police use.  When you had to pull the trigger to release the slide on the XD, you'd better be DARN sure that the chamber didn't have a live round in it!

And, yes, the XDM has a match barrel, but unless the shooter is a competition target shooter, I doubt that he would see any difference.  My .45 XD Sub-Compact is probably more accurate than I can shoot it!
