I wish I knew about this sooner. All these years I've been attaching my sling to the grenade launcher platform.

What's wrong with the title of the thread? I thought it was funny how uneducated the media is. And if the problem with the title is that I used the word "assault", what would you rather I call it?

There is a growing movement to no longer label these guns (AR's and the like) as "Assault" weapons as they are civilian semi-auto sporting rifles not intended to "Assault" but rather "Defend" and of course for sporting, hunting purposes.

true mil-spec rifles of the fully auto variety are as we know a different animal.

i laughed out loud when i saw this the other day in the paper.
“Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure, than to take rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in the gray twilight that knows neither victory nor defeat.”

The real question here is where can I get a grenade launcher to fit on the swivel.
Be more concerned with your character than your reputation. Your character is who you actually are while your reputation is merely who others think you are.

.

Semi Automatic... Sporting Rifle....

I can think of any other than Assault Rifle... Because they are not Assault Rifles.. Without that selector switch.. they are nothing more than semi auto rifles used for target shooting, hunting and self defense.

You are correct, and did not mean to insult...

An Assault Rifle is a weapon of war.  It is either fully automatic or it has a selector switch in place of the safety switch that allows it to go full auto or shoot 3 - 10 rd. bursts.

What we all own (for the most part, since I am sure there is some full auto people on here with tax stamp) are semi auto rifles, like a Ruger 10/22.  The rifles we all own and shoot are considered more dangerous because of the stocks and accessories that are on them, PERIOD.  So when they get these, be prepared for your Remingtion 1100/1187 or your kids .22 rifle or your Browning BAR in .308 to be considered an "Assault Weapon" by those that want to take guns

By using the left's terminology we fall right into their trap.

I hear you KFhunter. I carry an AR15 to work every night. It has a 16" barrel, collapseble stock, eotech sight and 30 round magazines. There is nothing sporting about it. Mine is with me in case I need it to stop a bad guy and that's the only reason I have it. So call it a battle rifle, assault rifle or whatever..but its not a sport gun.

Mine even has a grenade launcher platform swivel device  :chuckle:

Thousands of sporting shooters who use AR-15s would disagree with you.

Just because you aren't using it as a sporting rifle doesn't mean it isn't one.  Covering my junk with a plastic grocery bag before coitus doesn't change the definition from grocery bag to prophylactic.
“If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen.”

You carry yours for work.  I carry mine for hunting, self defense in my home, competitve and target shooting..  Are they different weapons??  I do not think they are very different at all.  However, mine is a sporting weapon, through and through..

I mean hell... lets call them murder weapons.. that is what the kid in CT, did right?  used his as a murder weapon?   Lets let the left gun grabbers go all the way with the terminology like they want.  Create more hysteria for the public, and just give in.

Millions of law enforcement and military personel would disagree with you. The gun was designed to kill people. Plain and simple. You can sugar coat it however you want but the original intention of this gun is for combat, not coyote hunting or paper target shooting.
