Pin size and colors for you sight?
« on: January 21, 2013, 01:18:01 PM »
I ordering a new spot hogg sight.  The spot hogg hunter 5 pin wrapped.

20 .19   green
30 .19   yellow
40 .19   red
50 .10   green
60 .10   yellow

This is what im thinking for size and color.  Any inputs on what you have any why?  What do you have on yours?
Any info how/why etc. that works best for you

Congrats on the sight!    Personally I would do .10 throughout.... I have the same sight in the 7 pin version. The first 5 .19 and the bottom 2 .10. IMO the pins are PLENTY bright with the smaller diameter. And the larger pins can "halo" in bright light. If I had to do over I would probably do all in .10.

As for color personal preference, although a friend ordered one with a couple blue pins and those seemed to really "pop".

I have a 7 pin hunter model and have it just like you are thinking. I like the larger pins at the closer ranges and 50 out I have the .010. The smaller pins make it easier to see the target at the longer ranges and having the different size pins makes it really quick and easy to look at the sight and know where the 50 is at.

I have different colored .29 pins right now (came with the sight).  At some point this off season, I'm moving to .19 pins and all 5 will be green or maybe green and yellow.  I have never seen blue pins.  Red sucks.  I will not have red pins ever again.

Just MY experience with my wrapped spot hogg. I have all .19 pins and in bright sunlight I have never had my pins halo or block out my target. But while in the timber I have had my pins disappear, while drawn all I could see was the black pins. Now if my .19 pins can disappear then I'm sure the .10 will. But thats only happened a couple times, the pins are usually very bright. Spot Hoggs are best on the market, wont shoot anything else.

I have this same set-up, but on a vertical pin sight. I like it just fine. You guys that have seven pins, how far do you have them set out to?

for me, red disappears about 10 minutes before shooting light ends.  sooner in the timber

I have mine set every ten yards from 20-80.

I believe they do. I know my hunting partner ordered one last year with blue pins. I would contact spott hogg directly.
