My dad and I were down hunting along the ocean in GMU 673 Williams Creek several years ago. The elk were feeding opening morning out in the field on the Palix River. Hunters surrounded them and were running them back and fourth from one side of the field to the other, while shooting the legal bulls. One of the big bulls (5 x 5) tried to cross one of the slews and got stuck in the mudd. Hunters could not get across to where he got stuck. Eventually the game department was called in by boat to try and pull him out. They spent several hours trying, but the tide ended up coming in. They were forced to shoot him before the tide drowned him. It was quite the scene to watch. They never did get him out, and he became fish food.
