Thanks for the test drive... I was considering this thing awhile back, but read alot of bad feedback with the service, so decided no-go.. they were working out the kinks with reception in cars, and in timber..
Looks like they have the coverage dialed in now and I am going to pull the trigger on this gadget.
Thanks again for all the info.

I just got mine through the GlobalCom link. The rebate form was included. If everything wrings out there, I'll be into it for $110.92, plus service. ($40 better than Costco, that's worth waiting for UPS ground.) I went with the Basic plus Geos Insurance. No tracking. (I can do that manually.)

The mail-in rebate only applies if you pay $149 or more. 6 / half-dozen.
Mine takes 3 to 5 minutes to send the message, and 10 minutes for the other end to recieve it.
Very neat piece of technology. It'll be in my bag! Thanks for the good thread, Ice!

Thanks for this thread guys! After seeing and hearing your reviews, this was what I asked Santa for. Surprisingly enough my wife happened to like the idea, and it was under the tree this morning! Thanks Ice for the good writeups.

Bump, with some additional info.
I used the device all thru duck season, on a few coyote trips, and even added my dad to my contact list so when we went on our overnight back country snow camp, he got messages that we were ok, and where we were.... (I send the OK message anyway....even though my family generally knows where I will be from data I leave at home, but all really like getting the OK message.)
I will report, that on a few occasions, no message was received out of maybe thirty? I think I did not let the device grind out where it was, and I was in a hurry wanting to send and simply didnt wait long enough after turning the device on.

Ditto, I've found that in heavy timber or steep terrain or both, you have to give it plenty of time to acquire and send. I usually turn it on before a calling stand, hit ok, then turn it off when I'm done. Usually takes 5-10 minutes in rough country, from power up... to finished sending.

I probably posted this, but I was messing around with it, set it in a deep bucket, turned it on in the bucket, let it acquire location, and successfully sent a message out, pretty cool. The reason is takes five minutes I read, is cause it will resend the same messsage thru the satelite link 3 times for redunancy, and only send one landline message from corporate, to your contacts.....
