new broadheads

I'm new to archery and not sure where I should go from here. I just bought a bow in January I've pretty much got it tuned and sighted in. I decided I was going to go with the montec 100 gr broadheads so I bought the practice ones. I shot them today and they grouped fairly good at 20 yds but when I went to pull my arrows I noticed they entered the target at an angle. Actually two different angles. I'm shooting gold tip xt hunters 5575 30" long with 100gr field pts with 30" dl and 60#. I did paper tune the bow with the field pts and got it dialed.

Whats your draw length?  Maybe a spine issue with a 5575 being 30 inches long.

The thing shoots 100gr field pts beautifully, I thought from everything I've read the montecs were supposed to be the equivalent to field pts.

i dont think there is a broadhead out that the company doesnt claim that it flies like a field point.
if you are underspined it will show through when you throw a broadhead on.atleast that has always proven true for me.

Broadhead tune your bow.

Shoot at 20 yards and shoot at 60 yards.  Does your group move in a direction.  If so adjustments to the rest and/or nock point are needed to get your bow in tune.

Shooting field tips can cover up the fact your bow is out of tune.

What bow did you get. Im willing to bet its out of tune. Take it to a pro shop or some where they can time the cam. Ive been tuning my new bow and need to sight it in before I go to my muzzys.

I bought a PSE EVO 7 it's got the lines on the cams and there still lined up on the string.

That explains everything PSE .  Just joking its hard to trouble shoot without seeing or shooting the bow.  My first bet is spine problem broadheads multiple any little problem.

The EVO is hard on arrows.  If the chart says your on the edge of spine you are probably under spined shooting the PSE.  Although I would venture to say your 31" of arrow and 100 grain broadhead puts you very light on the front.  So I'd expect your FOC is out of whack.  Also, where did you get the arrows?  What vanes?  Do they have a twist/helical?

Judging an arrows flight by the angle of the arrow in the target is not always a true test either.  You have to watch them in flight to be sure.  Especially if your target has multiple layers that the heads enter at an angle.  Montecs out of the box are not the sharpest tool.  So the dull surfaces will easily follow the path of the media orientation.  If they are at different angles to one another it's a good bet this or poor FOC in wind is what's happening.

Wish you where closer I wouldnt mind helping. There are lots of things it can be, I had to twist my strings a little to get the right kick out of my bow. Do you have the bow maxed out when the cams are in time? Do you use a rad or metapeep? Dloop? Got you vanes lined up with the heads?

I use the montecs and they do require a little retuning to shoot accurately.  It is extremely difficult for a Broadhead to perform the same as a field point.  It is simply physics.  Your adding increased drag and sheer forces that will magnify changes from non true flight.  A stiffer arrow may really help you here.  Regardless, expect to retune anytime you go to a different point.

Montechs are a good solid head but nowhere near the sharpest.  How bid is your normal group?

I had the same issue with my Muzzy's this season, Had to go to the 7595's and it was all good after that.

You can assume nothing by the way they look as if they entered the target. Walk back tune see if the group drifts left/right or up/down and adjust rest based on that.

Boy do I have a lot to learn, holy cow. Maybe this is my next project when I get some money. Get my bow properly tuned and get the correct arrows, lengths, spine on them.

Yeah, I need to get the courage to man up and go down to the archery range that  my girl bought me a membership for a year at "Tacoma Sportsmans Club", Just not sure how everything works down there at the range. Blah, stupid butterflies.

I know it, just not sure how it works. I drove by the other day looking for someone we were supposed to meet 4 hours prior but missed him due to lack of communication, no big deal. Looks cool. When you shoot downrange, and are out of arrows, how does that work? Is it like a gun range and I gotta yell CLEAR or what

First of all get rid of the aluminum arrows  just saying  It took me along time to switch to carbon but now that I have I will never go back ..then get cha some 100 gr Wasp Boss  and then your doing something....Just had to toss that in there to  just keep spending lots of money trying to find the perfect broadhead ...then once you have been threw them all ...Go and buy those Wasps and then let me know what you think !! lmao !!!!!
