Thought it would be fun to see all the non-bird dogs being used out there, here is mine. He is great in the early season until it gets cold! When it gets cold I will trade him out for my Chessie.

My uncle used to hunt pheasants and quail with a border collie. Dog dig almost as well as our GSPs!

My dad had a lab Shepard mix when I was knee high. He was one of the best bird dogs ever. He had several offers to buy him and a lot of people wanted to know where he was trained. I have seen guys out hunting with full size poodles and some pure mutts before.

awesome photos and stories...
This is sort of the other way around, but I used to have a springer that I taught to corner wounded coyotes till I could get there and finish them off. Got the idea from a couple friends who did the same with their springers.

I used to have a plott hound that loved to water retrieve, didn't have a very soft mouth though. Also had a black n tan that had natural pointing instinct, used him to find my chickens when thay got out in the tall grass.

I've been using my Siberian husky, she flushes roosters like a champ! I just wanted to get her some exercise one day and she busted a bird for me, thought it was a fluke till I saw her chasing another one down, it flushed, I shot it and she was on it instantly. Shot many more birds over her this season and missed many more. I just can't leave her alone with the birds, she hunts to eat, not for me ; )
