Battle Creek Outfitters, Oregon

Anybody have any word on these guys, good or bad, or know them personally?

I'm considering doing a combo archery Elk/Mule deer hunt in their Mt. Pedro area of Oregon.  It's 40,000 private acres that they lease.   I got a nice bonus at work for last year, and I would  like to have a chance at getting a decent bull with my bow.  A bonus would be getting a mule deer, but I'd be happy with either.

bad idea. they treat you like you dont know squat about hunting. if you want to be treated like a child then their for you. also not my place to say this but will throw alittle something out there that they are watch closely by OSP useing L.O.P tags on other ranches where their not valid for.

If you want to hunt Oregon I can recommend John Cole. Four of us did a cow elk hunt with them a couple years ago, and all our tags were filled by the 2nd day. They've got lots of private land to hunt, and we saw plenty of big bulls, and some really nice mule deer still in velvet.

Hi guys, thanks for the input.  Bonehead- what kind of hunt had you done with them/what area?  Was it all the guides, or just yours that treated you like that.  I emailed Bearpaw a couple weeks back but never got a response, but will try again, and will check out John Cole.

I will put in a good word for John Cole.  As stated above, lots of good land to hunt and he
and his wife Deb take good care of you and work hard to find you an animal.

I have heard good things about john cole as well. One of the members on here has hunted there I think a couple times. They have done well, think he goes with his grandpa and the local vet. I know they have always done well.

Why Oregon?? If I was spending money on a guided hunt I would want to be hunting quality bulls. Do some more research and buy a hunt that you won't regret. If would like I know a great guide in New Mexico unit 17 and its the best unit in the state for archery and muzzleloader elk.

GT Nunn of frontier outfitting is around $5000
Carl Montoya of threelink outfitter is $. 4500- 5000 both have access to ranch permit for a little bit more $$$
Both are very reputable guides both have guided Garth Carter that owns the huntin fool. New Mexico is due on the 20th if March and if your thinking about a guided hunt get ahold of one of these guys and pre book it helps with draw odds you get into the 10% guide pool draw.

I did some research this year and booked a hunt for me and my dad with John Cole...I got nothing but tremendous reviews of his operation.  If you check Ifish the hunting link I asked the same question about Battle creek and I got nothing but bad reviews.

I will second what guys have been saying about Bearpaw. We have had some great hunts with him and his guys!

That being said, I hunted with battle creek back in 2011 for mule deer and had a great hunt. I really enjoyed my time in camp with them. :twocents:

I will give another  to John Cole, I have known and hunted with them since back in the late 80's. John, has a first class operation. Someone asked why Oregon, it used to be one of the best kept secrets for big mule deer bucks and monster size bulls.

The short drive is also a factor to consider. For someone who doesn't have a lot of paid vacation time, it's nice to have only a 6 hour drive, which is what it took us to get to John Cole's place. A hunt in New Mexico would be what, about 24 hours of driving?

So that's 48 hours total, versus 12 hours if you hunt Oregon. A 36 hour difference.  :o

Of course you would also save a considerable amount of money in the fuel expense category as well.
