Time to upgrade my hen decoys - recommendations?
« on: March 04, 2013, 10:15:21 PM »
I'm looking for packable, realistic, and yep, here it is, reasonably priced hen decoy.  I've tried some inflatable types but they always end up leaking.  Any suggestions out there?

Thanks

I have the cabelas brand collapsible hen decoy and the hs strut soft collapsible hen decoy and both have gotten the job done multiple times on mature toms. And they are only 20-30 bucks each. Ive never been a fan of the inflatables, to me they look awful. Both decoys i mentioned are on cabelas website.... To me they are by far the best looking ones in that price range.

Yep get cheap calapsible decoys, I don't think brand is important.  I have some that I have been using for about 13 years and still work and you can always touch them up with some paint if they fade or weather a bit.

I just sold some Delta decoys in the classifieds here about 2 weeks back. They are a decent looking decoy. Collapsible rubber, lightweight but not to detailed. The Avian X hen looks good, supposed to be collabsible and reinflatable. I just checked some out at Cabelas last weekend, they seem a bit heavy and are on the higher end of cost. Hard to find a realistic decoy for a reasonable price. Might check out Dakota decoys as well. They have a jake decoy that resembles the DSD jake but retails for about $60 less. I've shelled out for DSD's in the last few years and am happy with thier performance.

The avian x decoys are really nice! The only down side is that they are heavy. Have't had a problem with any of mine leaking.

The flambeu decoys that bi mart usually sells are good for the price, around 25 bucks.  Avian x are for people that walk a hundred yards from there bad boy buggy to their ground blind.  Too over priced and way too heavy.

I always carry a decoy and pretty much never use it but I was looking at the PHD hen from primos last night and it looks pretty cool.  It is a cloth material that has a 3d image printed on it and it even shines like a turkey.  You inflate it with a few breaths and supposedly folds up and you can stick it in a cargo pocket.  I don't hunt fields so I'm not a decoy pro but for the run and gun guys like me it looked pretty cool.  Might have to pick one up and retire old Henrietta!
