49 Degrees North - Spring Draw

My buddy, not on this site, drew for 49 degrees north.  Anybody have any insight into that hunt?  When the best time is during the spring season?  Do you get a key up there for anything?  Do they eat trees over there like they do on the wet side?

Any help would be appreciated because I have to go assist him.

I have a few spots that hold bears that nobody hunts. We ran into them when I was out hanging cameras last fall and then got a lot of pictures of them all fall. I am sure they are still in there now.

I wouldn't bank on it.  49 seems to be a super late area for spring bears.  At least that's what I've noticed over the years.

I wouldn't know because I haven't been in there in the spring time but I was just throwing it out there. I would love to get one of the big color phases that I got pictures of.

I appreciate the "there are bears there" comment, but any advice on generically where to go, when and what to look for?

I've hunted west side bears, but never east.

We hunt up off highway 20 heading out of Colville towards Ione and Newport. There is a lot of good places up there and depending on the weather, I am sure you could get into the bears.

I live in 49 Degrees north unit. I am in the woods all the time during turkey season and I rarely see bears until either the berries or apples ripen up. With the snow around here your not going to get very high in the mountains even with a 4x4 until late April early may. Give me a call I can give you some pointers on areas that I see bears in the fall.

Depends on what side of the highway you are on. One side is aladdin and one side is 49 degrees north. Just trying to help but take it as you will. Good luck

I seen two over there when I was Turkey hunting years ago. They were on the side roads eatting grass. I wish I had a tag. The bear was 50 yards away. He gave me time to take a picture. I got drawn for huckleberry. I might stay the month up there.

I've seen 5 bears in 117 over the years turkey hunting. Always on or right around opening weekend of turkey season. 2 were cubs, 1 was a sow for sure.

I've helped my brother on a couple spring bear hunts in the Huckleberry the last few years, but never ventured over to the other side of the freeway.  Sure enough, I get drawn this year when he decides not to go in and I get pulled for 49 Degrees!     Definitely excited for my first Spring Bear hunt.  Would assume this unit is similar to Huckleberry in that it takes a while to "thaw"?  Meaning, more accessible late in the Spring?
