giant bull elk?
« on: March 10, 2013, 08:44:21 PM »
I heard that at the Yakima sportmans show the "best of show" went to a bull elk killed in 2012 that net scored 459 bc. I haven't seen pictures but have heard from a  friend that it grossed 490ish. Did any of the huntwa community see this bull? I am just trying to verify that this creature is real or a farm bull. I wouldn't think they would give "best of show" to a pen raised elk..

There are no farm elk in this state, at least none that are "hunted." It's illegal. One good thing about this state.

State record is 436 4/8 killed in 2008. No bulls that big killed in  washington or everyone would know about it. That score I believe would be in the top 5 of any bc bull killed ever. Funny how scores blow out of proportion in stories. Not from wa probably farm bull.

I realize it would be in the top 5 in the world. Thats is why I am surprized that know one has said a single word about it. The hunters name was Jack Crawford but it apparently didn't say what county or state it was harvested in.

The guy that got in trouble was Todd Reicher in 2007. To the post above,I would think he had to give the bull to the game department if he broke the law to get it. I may be wrong but it still could be measured for a state record just not Boone and Crockett and no hunter would get credit for it. My guess is its a farm bull from somewhere. A bull that big doesn't get taken with out the whole world hearing about it.

There are some monsters killed that fly under the radar.
Take your kids into the outdoors. They are our future. Support conservation by joining and participating in future through NRA, SCI, RMEF, Wild Sheep or any of the other great organizations.

pretty sure the bull at the yakima sportsmans show was 429 not 459 and I'm also thinking it said colorado maybe.  I remember thinking it didn't seem fair to have it in the same category as wa state bulls for a contest at a washington sportsmans show

I was told it didn't have much color leading me to believe it was probably a hanford area elk or a pen  raised carrot muncher. Either way it is wrong if they allow those farm elk to be entered into the antler competition, if thats what is was?!

You guys realize a couple tribal guys nailed those big bulls out on the hanford.   VERY WELL could have been him.

The bull scored 459 and I was told by one of the scorers that it was shot in Pennsylvania. By looking at the bull I don't know how it couldn't of been a high fenced bull.

There is a 40 or so page thread about this particular bull and several of his counterparts, including a huge typical.  The thread was locked as it had to do with heated tribal conversations.   High fences, well, sort of.  Hanford preserve.  Apparantly off limits to all hunting unless you are a tribal member.   :)  I assume Boone and Crockett won't recognize it.    Not sure about the state.
