Not sure I could get myself to shoot a porky. Maybe, if I owned an orchard or tree farm When I was younger we would just walk up to them and pull a few guard hairs out for fly tying. Those work sweet! One local lady made jewlery out of the quills and we'd get those for her. A light tap with a foam pool toy got all one would need for that.
They are very easy to kill with a stick. It seems easier than with a .22 I have killed a lot of them with a stout stick. One blow across the bridge of the nose and they are dead. Any that came around the dogs, cattle or yard were handled that way when I was growing up.
Almost all of them can be used. There is a market for the quills and gaurd hair, claws and skulls.

What do you use the long hairs for? I bagged one in Dec. and I am going to use the hairs for fly tyeing. What other things do they make out of the hairs?
