Broad head?

Watched a buddy kill a cyote with a rock at 40 or so yards. If the heads your shooting fly nice and do the job stick with them. I personally shoot shuttle T's would not think twice about shooting slick tricks or montechs.  They all do the job at some point it becomes a personall preferance!

Everyone seems to like the broadheads they shoot...  How about ones you don't recommend, and why?  I'm pretty new to the game, would like to hear about the ones to stay away from.

   I have had success with a bunch of different heads. Over the years I have shot, muzzy, g5, wasp, cabelas, wac em, sonic ( american broadhead ), innerloc, and some others I am sure. Of those the only one that I will never shoot again is the Sonic.    Normally I keep my opinion to myself, but those broadhead were JUNK imo. flight was great, but Blades were dull, and even worse kept falling out. When I contacted the manufacturer I was told that " it was a known problem" and I should throw some Loctite in there to "help" the problem. LOL I went and bought new broadheads that hour.

Oh man!  That would be a long list!  But pretty much any head that relies on a gimmick is best left alone.  Focus of a good head should be the ultra sharp blades.  Not razor wire, meat worms, offset blades, pizza cutters, etc.  Be especially skeptical of claims a head will help steer the arrow.  Last thing I want is a broadhead that wants to control any part of arrow flight!

Washington state does not allow the use of expandable pivoting broadheads.  So that makes the list much smaller.  There are some good ones out there.  But they are the exception rather than the rule.

You want a head that is extremely sharp and/or is extremely easy to get sharp.  Then you want a blade material that is hard enough to stay sharp.  Point shape really has more to do with marketing than actual performance.  Penetration is really a concern of the past.  So don't forget sharpness in an effort to increase penetration by means other than sharpness.  The results never work out in your favor.

Lastly, any replaceable bladed head who's replacement blades are so expensive you can not afford to replace them...you might want to think twice about.  The whole idea about replaceable blade heads is that their sharp and easy to keep sharp.  Would you buy a new truck if the tires were nearly as expensive as the truck itself?  If a dealer told me, "When the tires wear out just throw the truck away and buy a new one." I'd find myself another truck dealer, wouldn't you?

I couldn't see a difference from them or the montocs,  and the hell razors were cheaper

KF: The hell razors are nice heads. Indeed a lot like the montec. I think they are even a little sharper. I played with them when doing so broadhead tests. However to get them sharper the blades are a little thinner and the tip is a little weaker. I noted some curls in the blades and tip deformations in the solid stuff but still a decent head.

I always thought the Hellrazor was a good head.  Solid, sharpens well...then I saw this picture on their website.  Now I'm not so sure NAP isn't doing the devil's work.  This kid looks to have been possessed to me, what do you think?   Perhaps he made a deal with the devil to shoot such an awesome buck   Hellrazor just might be to literal for my taste!

Most NAP broadheads are quite good.  Some of the newer designs have gone down the gimmick path.  But all in all NAP is a pretty safe bet.  Thunderhead 100 and 125 are one of the all time best selling heads ever.  You could do much worse!

If you wait on broadheads until you pass your Hunter's Safety course...You can save that money.  I'll send you a celebration gift    But you need to pass your course

Though I am a little concerned about that.  WAY back when I took the course we had a hands on rifle section.  With your limitation in that regard hows that going to work?  I'm sure there are some instructors on the site.  If you haven't already you might want to get some clarification from them on ways to work around that.

I've already talked to the instructor that is going to be educating me through e-mail, He told me that he will be able to accommodate with my background and It should not be a problem. I might not be able to be as "hands-on" as everyone but Im sure he will have his own little tasks just for me. No big deal, Whatever I gotta do. May 20th is when It all goes down.
He said I just had to sign a form when I first get there before the class begins.
Not sure what that form involves..
