I want to say March of 2009 is when it came about. Lots of FFL's were not charging it, I think because they didn't know they had to or it wasnt enforced.  It is enforced now so plan on paying for it.

It's classified as use tax.  Been on the books for years but never enforced.  2009 state started getting hungry for money and started cracking down on it.  Originally, the tax was written that itis the citizens responsibility to pay it directly to the state but the state decided it was easier to force the dealers to collect it nice we are the gateway.

I know that I will pay sales tax on it in the neighborhood of 300 dollars or so but luckily I have a friend who's buisness has an FFL so I am getting it transferred to him and avoiding paying a transfer fee from a gun or pawn shop.
