Tyvek anyone?
« on: April 03, 2013, 09:09:42 PM »
I was just curious about what kind of uses other folks had for Tyvek.  I was thinking about using it for a shelter, a ground tarp, maybe just wrapping up in a little cocoon of it in my sleeping bag...  Any good ideas?  I've heard washing it makes it quiet?

Its a good ground tarp while using a floorless shelter to put your sleeping pad on.

I have a roll and typically use it for decoys or fold it and use it as a drop cloth when painting.  I had an extra roll when I built my house.

I was making some flyer snow goose decoys.  Also tried to make some silo's, but I have to work on those.

I get the tyvek hooded painters suits at Home Depot for winter camo. You can spray paint them too.

I use it to lay meat on as I bone out deer or elk.  It is very thin and lightweight, making it easy to pack with me.  Very tough, too.  If it is windy out, just weigh down the corners with rocks or sticks to keep it from blowing away until you put some meat on it.

Have used it to cape and bone meat out on too.  After you are done, it can be used to keep the cape dry.

Put it on the ground, let the rain/snow fall then lift the Tyvek up and you have a dry place to sit.  Seems dumb but you take any luxury you can get up there......

It is light, but noisy.  I wouldn't use it for a tarp or anything like that, it would drive me nuts listening to it all night long!

I don't carry it, it isn't necessary and just adds weight/bulk.  If my hunting partner wants to pack it, I am all for it!   :chuckle:

I'll be making a small tent out of it for the high hunt. I'll post the results when I'm done.

I would like to see pictures of this.  Sounds (on paper at least!) like a good idea.

I looked it up and it has been done numerous times. One guy even has a site that he sells them from.
I'll post pics when it's done and some from the field when I get back in September.
