Be sure and research the Dayton WA area. Lick Creek.  Also I would seriously consider the area in the SE around the Grande Rhonde.

People will inevitably mention the NE corner and I will say I live in the NE yes there are elk but it takes years and years to have a chance and find a enjoyable area.   Not knowing the area and not being able to devote years into putting in the time I can almost guarantee you will be disappointed in the NE experience.

I share willingly because your from Shelton.  PM me if you think of it what you end up doing and what you thought of your trip.   Good luck.

Even with 16 points, odds aren't good for the most popular/best quality permits. I would just pick a couple of hunts that have the most permits relative to the number of applicants.

You might also apply for permits in the regular bull category. Any of them will be good hunts. You get five days to hunt just before the general modern firearm season opens for spikes. You get four choices, I'd apply for Little Naches, Manastash, Bumping, and Nile.

Maybe hire a guide.  If you haven't hunted the eastside at all its going to be tough and you don't want to waste all those points!

If you want a quality hunt I'd pick the blues and get ahold of mountianccok . I wouldn't waste 16 points for any of the central units inless your just looking for a 250-300 class bull , on average thats what you will find in most of the 300 gmu's  :twocents:

My choices would be,
Lick creek-175
Wenaha east-169
and some guys last year had pretty good luck in the Dayton-162 unit.
Ive been hunting Lick Creek for 4 years now and Ive been in bulls every year but its a spike/cow unit for archery unless you pull the bull tag.....
IF you get the tag Id be more than happy to show you around Lick creek or the Wenaha. Good luck
