DIY Arrow Saw
« on: April 09, 2013, 07:27:31 PM »
I found myself in need of a late winter project...the cure was a new arrow saw.  I pulled out an old Dremel I already had, picked up a few odds and ends from E-bay: Rubber feet, misc aluminum extrusions, bearings, U bolts, misc hardware, rubber hose.  I fortunately have access to a machine shop at work, so a few late nights after work machining parts and I have a one of a kind arrow saw on my work bench.

I use to be...It's a little like riding a bike I guess...it was fun to get my hands on the equipment again.

I just cut my 1st batch of arrows, it performed great....one thing to remember if you make a saw using a Dremel, you will have to make two cuts if you're cutting them shorter than 30".  The cut off wheels are a slightly smaller diameter than the Dremel body.  I only cut arrows a couple times a year so 2 cuts per arrow doesn't bother me much.  I'm thinking about putting a sewing machine motor on one of these days to make it compatible with the cutoff wheels used on commercial saws. You can buy a 7000 RPM sewing machine motor on E-bay for about $25.00.
