Truck Shopping, how are the newer Dodges?
« on: April 10, 2013, 02:36:23 PM »
I'm in the market for a new truck, I have always been a chevy guy, but to be honest, the new ones don't appeal to me very much. So I have ben looking around at ford's and Toyota's, not really sold on either one. Don't want to pay for a Tundra, the Tacoma might be a tad bit small, but I do like it. Theres just something about the F150, I'm not sure of. I have no experience with the newer Dodge's, I found a 2011 that looks good, but would like a little input orany other recommendations you guys might have.

Can't speak for the gas rigs, but I love my 06 dodge diesel.  I also love fordes new diesel... :twocents:

For half tons all I have ever owned is fords and I have had very few problems.  Last one was a 1997 f150.

I believe you can get or at least order a new Dodge 150 with a diesel engine now.

I'd honestly say it's a matter of personal preference, I think I've owned most everything except the Dodge, while my Dad drives only Dodge. :dunno:  If you find a good deal, buy it.  Go with what you like and need, if you're hauling the family around look at back seat leg-room.  I have tall sons and found the back seat on Chevy didn't offer as much room as Ford's new crew cab, get what fits you and what you like to look at.
Disappointments are inevitable, misery is optional.

The heavy duty diesel cummins- is a totally differnt powertrain, and has a bit of a following. The half tons- Dodge has improved, now has I believe a 5yr/100k powertrain warranty like chevy. With the exception of their new little v6, they get worse gas mileage than the ford and chevy. you can get a dodge for 2k$ or so cheaper than a ford or chevy.. The dodge is still not as good as the ford or chevy in reliability.. Doubt me? get on craigslist and see how many dodge's you see with less than 150k on them that say "new transmission" or engine, in the ad.. compared to ford and chevy.

Thanks for the replies fellas, I'm pretty torn, I don't really care for the looks of any of them, guess I'm hard to please. My only requirments, is four wheel drive and four door. I don't really pull very much, but there is a little talk of getting a camper or boat in the next couple of years. If we do get a camper or boat it will be on the smaller side, so any light truck should do the job. I kinda like the tacoma but I worry that the cab is a little small. I just didn't know much about the late model dodge trucks, I have never heard many good things about them, not that I have heard a lot of bad though. just thought I would ask.
