Alcohol Jet Stove - First Attempt DIY
« on: April 11, 2013, 03:44:22 PM »
Just made my first Alcohol Jet Stove. Real nice and lightweight, Pretty sturdy considering its made from a pop can.
Pretty Impressed with the overall performance. I think everyone should make one of these.

A little Isopropyl Alcohol or HEET, and your good to go.
Enjoy.

Have you tested how long it takes it to boil water?

I havent done any measurements yet but ill do one when I get home for you guys. Im pretty sure its a 4 minute boil with 2oz of fuel and a 8-10 minute burn but they all very depending on build. There's tons of videos on youtube of these and different modifications but mines cooler cause its just in fact that, mine ;) gonna try to build a windscreen tonight for it that doesnt look super janky.

I tried mine about two months ago.  I had to throw it in the sink.  I think I'm just freaking out. :-)

I looked into making one of those awhile ago, think they were calling it a penny stove...but like most things I have more interests and hobbies than time so it never took place.  Lots of good info on how to make them on youtube.

It was really easy, Took me about 30-45 minutes with nothing but a sharpie and a pair of scissors and a few pieces of tape

Instead of using Heet you can get S-L-X denatured Alcohol at any paint store or paint isle of any hardware store. It burns hotter and is made for stoves. They just sell it in paint stores for clean-up and stripper. It is a fraction of the cost of gas station Heet. Especially if you get it by the gallon.

Also, a scientifically minded buddy of mine mentioned that HEET gives off some crazy gases similar to formaldyhide (sp?).  Anyways,  thought I would mention S-L-X, I noticed faster burn times.

I actually went back to a canister stove.  I got tired of freeze dried food and started packing full meals to cook up.  Alchy stoves aren't the greatest for simmering and frying.  Now I have steak fajitas and breakfast boritos.
