3/4 mile, 1 1/2 hour silent stalk
« on: April 19, 2013, 08:48:32 PM »
Heard this guy gobbling on the other hill,so i stalked him. I was sure he was a jake, since he was gobbling every three minutes and he seemed to be a loner.
I finally got a bit ahead of him, then he dropped off the bank onto the lane (about eight yards behind me) I was following him on. The surprised look in his eye when he saw me was precious. He tried to gobble, but the 1-7/8 load of four shot choked him up some.
One inch spurs, eight inch beard trimmed a little short by said shot. Not sure what he weighed, but he was heavier than most birds ive shot.

congrats
"One does not hunt in order to kill; on the contrary, one kills in order to have hunted...If one were to present the sportsman with the death of the animal as a gift he would refuse it. What he is after is having to win it, to conquer the surly brute through his own effort and skill with all the extras that this carries with it: the immersion in the countryside, the healthfulness of the exercise, the distraction from his job."

Sweet.  I'd be hunting right now, but I guess the fiancé would be pissed if I paid for a turkey trip instead of our Hawaii wedding next week.
