looking diaphragm calls for turkey calling?
« on: April 21, 2013, 09:08:29 PM »
ive used diaphragms for elk calling. wanted to try some for turkey calling. i have double reed sonic dome from primos i like was looking for a single reed and another double reed call. went to cableas they did not have but one call left. its the one i picked up. just thought i would ask on here to see some other calls to try. i seem to be able to use the diaphragms with the palate plate or dome easier. thanks

Jason Phelps' calls are fantastic. JPhelps on here. Hit him up.

All of the manufacturers make a call or two that I like well enough, but they can be inconsistent from one call to the next with the same name.  Two of the smaller companies I've used with good luck are Hooks and XT Calls.  XT uses some really stiff tape that I'm not that fond of until well broken in, but I think he is offering a more flexible tape now.  Hooks (I think Scott) is good about talking to you on the phone and suggesting calls that you may like.

If there is a local guy on here producing good calls, I'd probably start there.

Scott Hooks calls are really good. I plan on trying a Phelps next time I buy ... I just have a bunch of Hook's calls right now.
