Good Deal on Quad?
« on: April 25, 2013, 02:44:04 PM »
I have a friend who is selling her 1999 Honda 300 EX for $1000. I don't ride a whole lot, but I go often enough with friends that I'd like to have one of my own.
Sounds like a good deal to me, but I know NOTHING about quads so  :dunno:

Anything mechanical I would suggest getting checked out by someobody with grease under their nails.

Start reading reviews online about the 300. Th 400 EX is a great machine and basically uses the XR400R motor. Not sure about the 300 motor.

If there bad, you will see lots of info about them.

Camo,
I had a Recon 250 that was 2 wheel drive for my daughter and wife and it was fun to ride. Hard to get stuck and dependable as all get out. My 350 Rancher has been running for a decade and pulled out a bunch of elk and deer and it just keeps ticking! Hard to go wrong with a Honda.

Thats a great Girls Quad, I bought one for my wife 10 years ago. Nice thing is , it has reverse.  Not an overpowering quad, motors are pretty much bullet proof. We took it to the dunes 4 or 5 times.

Great ol quad.  Solid and reliable.  Decent power and reverse but the lever for reverse is a bit awkward.  Very capable machine.  Fast enuff for normal rider looking to have a little fun.  I have rode most of em and liked em all.  Owned a 250ex (still do-rock solid semiauto but slow) 400ex and 450r. All great.  1000 is cheap for a good decent one.  If ya dont want a clutch 250ex or recon is great but slow.
MAGA!  Again..

Thanks for all the advise. Gonna go look at it on Saturday. Did a quick search on Craigslist and it seems like the price is decent. Will post pics if I get it :)

Well I got it! Needs a little work but she runs good so I feel like it was a good deal :) Gonna clean her up real good, take the stickers off and I'll be a happy camper! She'll make a good first bike till I can upgrade ;)

Congrats Camo Queen.  There is plenty of power in that bike and from the pics it looks like your friend cared for the bike too.  Ride on!

 Score!  I see it has nerf bars which are great and safer and a headlight delete.  Stock headlight is the ugly part of those bikes.  Clean air filter and oil and it should give ya lots of fun.  A tip for you if you need to buy stuff for it, RockymountainATV,com.  WAAAY cheaper then dealers and lotsa good stuff.  Tires are cheap too.  Shipping is mostly free as well.  Great place to buy from.  Maxxis razor tires are much better then oem.

Well, learned how to ride today and got her all cleaned up :) Looks 100x better than before! Only took me about 10 mins to figure out the clutch and changing gears and all that. It has a twist throttle which I have decided I'm definitnely switching out with a thumb throttle... I wasn't a huge fan of doing a wheely on my first day... lol
Excited to get out and ride :) Thanks for the advice! I'm sure I'll be on this board more now  ;)

Bought two TRX's last year, we are having a ball with them, Also got a smaller cc quad with auto clutch for younger kids,  I have a ton of riding gear that we don't use, Boots, gloves, helmets, pants, jerseys...(mostly female type...pinks etc) also two adult chest protectors with "extra room"  I recommend the chest protectors at all times.

Pm if you are needing any gear, we are outta Gig and I ride Naches to Elensburg often.  Love to travel.
Hunting, Basketball, Cars.... not much more for me to talk about.
